Fariba Nawa was born
in the year 1973. She is Afghan-America freelance journalist that grew up in
both Herat and Lashgargah in Afghanistan and also Fremont in California. She
was born in Herat to a native family of an Afghan. Her family left the country
at the time of the soviet invasion in the 1980s. She is good in the Persian
Arabic and the English language. In the year 2000, she ventured into her
country that was controlled by the Taliban regime via Iran.

‘Afghanistan Inc’ is one of the major resources that is used in various media
around the world while arguing effectiveness of reconstruction efforts in her
country. She looks into the progress of reconstruction, uncovers some examples
to where money has gone and where it has not gone, how the system of
international aid functions and how it does not function, and what it is
exactly like in the villages and cities where the outsiders are rebuilding the
countryside that was torn by the war.
Her book that is called ‘Opium Nation’ was
published in November, 2011. The book is her personal account of the drug trade
in her country, Afghanistan and how it has affected the poor members of the
country.
