Big Drum music is done all over the Windward Islands and is particularly known
in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The drums are usually produced from the
tree trunks, but are more frequently produced from rum kegs now. The communally
aware or satirical words are frequently done by a female singer known as
chantwell, and it is followed by dancers in colourful skirts and headdresses.
Big drum is well-known performed during weddings and other festivities,
particularly in the inauguration of boats.
