Zouk is a pattern of rhythmic music coining from the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Zouk refers to party in the native creole of French with English and African influences, all the three of which contribute to the beat. In Europe, it is generally renowned in France; while African countries like Cape Verde and Angola have created their own kind of zouk. Zouk was brought to Portugal by Portuguese speaking settlers from Angola and Cape Verde. Linked patterns comprise kuduro and kizomba.
