New
Zealand has retained a small dark music scene which was traced back from the
70s and 80s via revolutionary ensembles such as Children’s Hour, Nocturnal
projections, The Skeptics, Fetus Productions, Winterland and Hieronymus Bosch. The
New Zealand darkwave ensembles include N.U.T.E, The Mercy Cage, Kevorkian &
the Suicide Machine enjoys international commendation.
The
dark scene in New Zealand was formerly sponsored itself through different
self-funded groups such as Circadian Rhythms and Club bizarre which both are
defunct. Most of the New Zealand dark releases are independent, self-funded or
funded by the different help networks of musicians and performers and following
the closing of the final of the darkwave/gothic/ industrial club in 2008 and
the country no longer have regularly-scheduled scene nights in any of the city
in the country. In the present years Creative New Zealand (New Zealand’s art
Council) has released funds for some darkwave/experimental musicians such as
Jordan Reyne. Most of the ensembles and artists in the genre continue to help
themselves through overseas internet service.
