Guinea
gain their independent in the year 1958 and the first major band in the Guinea
famous music tradition was formed by the government son after; this was the
Syli Orchestre National, a dance group which characterized and have some of the
best artists in the land. Guinea’s President, Sekou Toure, scattered all of the
private dance bands included famous groups such as Bala et ses Balladins,
Kelatigui Et Ses Tambourinis and Kebendo Jazz (also referred as Orchestre de
Danse de Gueckedou). Many of these bands recorded on Sympone records. Bembeya
jazz National further improved Guinea’s musical melting pot after visiting
Cuban in the year 1965.
As
in Mali, a root restoration occurred in the 1960s and 1970s with state support
from Sekou Toure. He brought a radical cultural policy known as authenticite,
whereby musicians and artists were directed to look at the past for
inspiration, and to incorporate the traditional practice in their arts.
The
authenticite stopped with the death of Sekou Toure in the year 1984. Later,
Mory Kante became a big star. Albums such as 10 Cola Nuts saw major normal
success in both Mali and Guinea as well as some European success. Yeke Yeke,
however, a single from Mory Kante a Paris became a European chary-topper in the
year 1988.
