country Guinea is a West African nation, composed of many ethnic groups. Of
these, the music of the Mande has been particularly famous and internationally
popular, even outside of the West Africa.

The
Guinea’s Mande are mostly Maninka speaking. Music is led by the djelis,
travelling singer-researchers who sing praises to their noble patrons. In the
recent period, the guitar plays a very significant impact. The traditional
instruments which include the ngoni, a distant relative of the banjo, and the
balafon, popular balafon players like Ei Hadji Djeli Sory Kouyate and early in
his career, superstar Mory Kante, the kora, a cross between a harp and lute, is
also spread over. Other famous traditional music utilized the cylindrical Dunun
paired with the goblet shaped Djembe.
