Popular Music of Cambodia

The Cambodian pop music or modern music is divided into two classes which include the ramvong and ramkbach. The ramvong is a slow dance while the ramkbach is closely related to Thai traditional music. In the area Siem Reap, a form of music that is known as the Kantrum has become popular, originating among the Khmer Surin in Thailand, kantrum is well-known for Thai and Cambodian star like Darkie.

The recent music is usually presented in Cambodian Karaoke VCDs that is usually of an actor, actress or both is making the actions, and is usually by mimicking the lyrics to the background songs by moving their mouth as if they were actually composing the song. Noy Vannet and Lour Sarith are some of the recent composers who sing the songs for use with the Karaokes, are usually of the songs that are composed by Sin Sisamouth or others and in addition to the songs that are sung and composed are composed by Sin Sisamouth himself.
