The
Mestizo tradition in the north and west Belize, and also the Guatemala is
branded by the marimba, a xylophone like instrument that descended from an
African instrument. The Marimba groups use the percussion sets, double bass and
sometimes other instruments, the well-known performers which include the Alma
Belicena and the Los Angeles Marimba group. In the Benque Viejo Del Carmen, the
Los Angeles marimbas were owned by the Castellanos family, whose father,
Ernesto Castellanos, was both musician and master of marimba makerd. They had
scheduled weekend performances at the Los Angeles Club (which is also owned by
the Castellanos family) on Church Street in Benque Viejo Del Carmen.

Cumbia music is mainly performed by the bands in the northern area of the
country where the Mestizos are abundant. Cumbian is a genre of music with the
similar way to the salsa and merengue.
