Baritone: Belgium musical instrument

The baritone which can also be called ‘bari sax’ is one of the largest members of the saxophone categories. It is said to be the lowest pitch saxophone that is commonly used. The tenor, alto and the soprano saxophone also belong to this family.

The Bari sax is a transposing musical instrument whose parts are written in the key of Eb that is pitched an octave plus a major sixth lower than written. It is one octave that is lower than the alto saxophone.  This musical instrument is used as a recognized member of the concert bands and saxophone quartets. It has been called for in orchestral music from time to time.

A baritone saxophone is an essential part of the military bands, jazz bands and it is also common in musical theater. The musical instrument plays a crucial role in many Motown hits of the 60s and it is often in the horn section of funk, blues, soul and Latin bands. And from time to time it is also used in rock music. Well known Bari saxophonists that exist in American popular music include Steve Kukpa of Tower of power and Dana Colley of Morphine. Nevertheless, Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Fela Kuti featured two baritone saxophone players in his band. A good number of jazz performers have featured the musical instrument as their primary instrument.
