Modern Music of Guatemala

In the recent eras, Guatemala has produced a variety of famous performers such as pop vocalists, Guatemalan rock bands, heavy metal orchestra, big bands, merengue bands, hip hop, reggaeton crew, disk-jockeys, tropical salsa, mariachi bands and trios. The best known pop-singer/ songwriter from Guatemala is Ricardo Arjona. One of the better-known pop-rock bands during the 1980s and 90s was the orchestra Alux Nahual. While this group has been separated since 1988, their recordings are still favoured by a certain age group of Guatemala City dwellers. Notable vocalists from the 20^th century include Roberto Rey, Herman may, Luis Galich, Tania Zea, Elizabeth and Karim May.
