Bands
like Bohemia Suburbana, La Tona, Viernes verde and E.x.t.i.n.c.o.n. were the
cornerstone for the alternative rock movement of the 90s, during the period of
the post-war in Guatemala. These bands still enjoy a level of success, mainly
because during that period FM Radio (station like Double S then renamed
Atmosfere, FM Fenix, Metroestereo, La Marca) represented a big push for rock
bands.
However
there were also underground movements during the 90s that went the opposite
direction; with bands like Pusher (metal), Domestic Fool (punk), Fuerza X
(hardcore) among others setting new patterns outside the normal movements.
Currently there has been a documentary known as Aletrenativa which documents that
alternative and Garra Chapina movement from the 90s to this day.
