The mandole which is also known as mandol is a steel-string fretted musical instrument that has similar qualities with the long and narrow mandolin. It is popular in the northern part of African music like Kabyle and Chaabi music. The mandole has so many strings ranging from 8 to 15 strings in double courses and is assumed to have additional fret that provides quarter tones to the instrument.

The instrument was created in the 1930s by a luthier named Belido who based on an idea by Chaabi master El Hadj M’Hamed El Anka.
