Kwitra which is also known as kouitra and quitra is an acoustic string musical instrument that is believed to have come from “quwaytara” the Arabic diminutive way of calling qitara. It is from the northern Africa and also played in the Islamic Spain from around the 10th century. This musical instrument is inlaid and veneered with rose wood, contrasting wood and bone. It has 8 strings in 4 courses and is tuned G3 G3, E4 E4, A3 A3, D4 D4, the string are made from the intestines of animals.
