Lêdo Ivo was born on the 18th February 1924 in the city of Seville; he died on the 23rd December 2012. He was a Brazilian poet, a novelist, an essayist and a journalist. Lêdo Ivo was a member of the Academy of Letters of the country and he was elected in the year 1986.

Lêdo Ivo was born in Maceió, he settled in the year 1940 in the city of Recife and it was there that he finished his training. He moved to the city of Rio de Janeiro in the year 1943 to register in the Law school and while he was working for the literary supplements as a professional journalist of the country. He got married to Leda Maria Sarmento Ivo de Medeiros and they had three children together.
Lêdo Ivo published his first book called As imaginações, which was a collection of poem in the year 1944. He published his work called Ode e Elegia the next year, and the work was awarded the Olavo Bilac Prize the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
Lêdo Ivo was also a translator; he translated the works of Albrecht Goes, Jane Austen, Maupassant, Rimbaud and Dostoyevsky into the Portuguese language.
Lêdo Ivo published two memoirs Confissões de um Poeta in the year 1979, and that won the prize of the Cultural Foundation of the Federal District and then the O Aluno Relapso in the year 1991.
