Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada was born on the 19th April 1870;
he died on the 5th February 1927. He was a Brazilian poet, essayist,
journalist, literary critic and a professor. He is popular for the writing of
the poem that became the lyrics of the National Anthem of the country in the
year 1922.

Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada was the occupant of the 17th
chair of the Academy of Letters of the country from the year 1915 till he died
in the year 1927.
Life
Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada was born in the city of Paty do Alferes in
the year 1870 to Lieutenant Colonel Luís de Azeredo
Coutinho Duque-Estrada and Mariana Delfim Duque-Estrada. Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada was sent to Colégio Pedro II
in 1882 and he graduated in Letters in the year 1888. He published his first
book called Alvéolos two years before
his graduation in the year 1888.
Duque-Estrada started writing for the journals of the country like A Cidade do Rio in the year 1887 and worked with José
do Patrocínio.
Duque-Estrada died in the year 1927.
