Bernardo Carvalho was born in the year 1960 in the city of Rio de Janeiro; he is a Brazilian author and a journalist. Bernardo Carvalho was the editor of the Folhetim, a collection of essays and he is a Paris and New York correspondents for Folha de São Paulo. The first two novels he wrote were edited in France.

He was the winner of the prize of the Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte in the year 2003 with the novel called Mongólia. With his novel called Nove Noites, Bernardo Carvalho shared the Portugal Telecom Prize for Literature with Dalton Trevisan.
