Rubem Braga was born on the 2nd January 1913 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim city, state of Espírito Santo; he was a popular Brazilian writer of short stories.

Rubem Braga was raised in his hometown but while he was still young he was sent to the city of Niterói by the parents to reside with relatives. He attended the Law School in Rio de Janeiro though he graduated in Minas Gerais in the year 1932. At the time of the World War II, he was a war correspondent together with the Brazilian forces for the newspaper of the country called Diário Carioca in Italy. After that he went back to the country and lived in Rio de Janeiro. He was arrested many times by the military government of the day.
He published his first book called O Conde e o Passarinho in the year 1936 at the age of 22. He was one of the few writers of the country to gain recognition by writing of short stories. Together with Fernando Sabino and Otto Lara Resende, Rubem Braga founded the book publisher called Editora Sabiá.
As a journalist, Rubem Braga was a reporter, writer and an editor for several newspapers and magazine of the country from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Bahia. Rubem Braga was nominated the Chefe do Escritório Comercial in Chile in the year 1953, and that was because of the relationship he kept with the president Café Filho. He was appointed the ambasado of the country to Morocco by the president of the country, Jânio Quadros.
Rubem Braga died in Rio de Janeiro on the 19th December 1990.
