João Franklin da Silveira Távora was born on the 13th January
1842; he died on the 18th August 1888. He was a Brazilian novelist,
journalist, politician, lawyer and a dramatist. He is popular for his
regionalist romance work called O Cabeleira set in the Pernambuco of the 18th century.

João Franklin da
Silveira Távora was born in the city of Baturité, Ceará, to Camilo Henrique da
Silveira Távora and Maria de Santana da Silveira. He had his primary education
in Fortaleza and moved to the city of Pernambuco in the year 1854 to study law
in Recife. He graduated in the year 1863. He moved to the city of Rio de
Janeiro in the year 1874 for writing for the journals of the country like A Consciência Livre and A Verdade.
Together with Nicolau
Midosi, João Franklin da Silveira Távora was the founder of the Revista Brasileira that lasted from the year
1879 to the year 1881.
