Waldemar dos Santos Alonso de Almeida Bastos was born on the 4^th January 1954 in São Salvador do Congo, Portuguese Angola. He is an Angolan musician who combines Afropop, fado and the Brazilian influences in his music.

Waldemar dos Santos Alonso de Almeida Bastos was born in the Portuguese Overseas region of the town of Angola, São Salvador do Congo, which is now known as M’banza-Kongo to black parents who were both nurses. He started singing at the early years with the use of his father’s musical instrument. after the independence of the country in the year 1975, because of the events of the Carnation Revolution in Lisbon, he left the country to Portugal at the age of 28. He left the country so as to avoid the civil war between the Marxist Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola tenure and the Western-supported National Union for Total Independence of Angola.
