Biography
Francisco Santos’s parents, who were Portuguese came to Angola in the
year 1959 and grew up in the African quarters of Luanda in the country. Since
he was a young man, he was focused to the arts and sports. Francisco Santos
started to write when he was 14 years of age; he started painting at the age of
16. In that time, he had published few short stories and poems in many
magazines and newspapers in the country.
When he was in the secondary school, he became the founder and the publisher of the
magazine called The Bantalas, which was
totally dedicated to the art and he took part in a contest of Art Painting that
had the main aim of producing a poster commemorative if the anniversary of the
MPLA gaining the first place in the country.
He was good in sport and he got himself many national titles in the
country in swimming and in Chess. He stood for the country in the some
international competitions, and the last being in the 1980 Summer Olympics in
Moscow.
Francisco Santos loves experiencing new things in the Art painting and he
is strongly moved by the African art and by the work of Salvador Dali. The
interest he had in painting was good until the year 1986, when he had a
personal problem, though he started painting again in the year 2002.
He was a Militant of the Youth of the Party JMPLA. He dropped the politics
of the country and relocated to Portugal in the year 1986. In Portugal he took
up singing under the name Francis Riba,as he created many musical groups. From
the year 1982 to the year 1999, Francisco Santos was involved in many musical
and theatrical projects as a technician, as a musician, as a producer and as a
director with numerous adaptations and two correct pieces.
Francisco Santos graduated in the Soviet Union in the year 1986, in
Chemical Engineering, and it was there that he practiced more of the scientific
drawing and Creative Thought in the Post Modernism. While he was in Portugal,
he finished his studies in Data Processing, System Engineering and Programming.
Francisco Santos has a MA of the Modern day Fine Art from the Sheffield
Institute of Arts, Sheffield United Kingdom. He has most of his works being
shown in the public places and he is shown in many private and official
collections of Portugal, UK, Angola, Russia, France, Brazil and Spain.
