Football Career
Carlos
Alberto Fernandes was born in Kinshasa, Zaire. He began his
football career as a striker, before moving to the goalkeeping function after
he replaced an injured teammate. He began his professional football with the
lowly UD Vilafranquense and he played shortly with S.C Campomaiorense in the
second division after that.
Carlos
Alberto Fernandes went back to the lower leagues with the club
Amora FC, though after some good performance with FC Felguiras in the second
level, he made a move to the top flight game of Boavista FC for the 2005/05
season.
While he was with Boavista, Fernandes was at first the second choice
player behind WillianAndem, but suddenly he was given the honor of the starting
role, and this prompted a move to Romania’s FC SteauaBucaresti in January of
the year 2006. Shortly after he has arrived to the club, he lost the confidence
of the fans of the club and that of the general manager of the club,
MihaiStoica. The manager declared at a TV show that the
player, though he has not been at his best, had been subjected under heavy
pressure because of the fact of being the only foreign player in the team.
Fernandes
was sold back to his former club, Boavista on the 30th May 2007. In
the 2007/08 season, after he had lost the first choice position to
Liechtensteiner Peter Jehle, Fernandes was loaned to Foolad FC in the January
of the year 2008. The move to the club was made permanent in the next season.
After spending a year in Iran, Fernandes made a move back to Portugal in the
summer of the year 2009 and he joined Rio Ave FC. In the year 2010, he left the
club and joined Bucaspor, where he made 14 appearances in the 2010/11 season.
With the intention of gaining more playing times, he joined Feirense in the
year 2013, but was unable to make the proper starting line of the club. He
played just 11 matches for the club in that year and left the club in that same
year. In the year 2013, Fernandes joined Moreirense and stopped playing in the
year 2014. He played the total of 16 matches for the club.
Through
his grandmother, Fernandes decided to play for the Angolan national team at the
international level. He played his first match for the country in the year 2009
almost at the age of 30. He played for the country in the African Cup of
Nations of the year 2010, which was played in the country, Angola.
He was
also among the national team players that took part in the 2012 African Cup of
Nations. He played the first two games of the tournament for the country but
missed the third match because of yellow card, as the country left the
tournament in the group stage.
