Mahieddine Bachtarzi was born on the 15th December 1897; he
died on the 6th February 1986. He was an Algerian singer, actor,
writer and a director of the TNA. He was as well the author of close to 400
musical works with a career that bridged for about 70 years as he gained much
honor for himself in life.

Biography
Mahieddine Bachtarzi was born in Casbah, Algerian to a family that is
wealthy and from Turkish origin. He passed through Islamic school at the Ben
Medersa Osman Sheikh, and when he was 15 years of age he was entrusted because
of the good voice quality he had, as a reciter of the Quran at the Great Mosque
of the Algiers. He could not continue with the duty because he preferred the
limelight of the austerity of the prayer hall and so he pushed on to focus on
the singing.
In the year 1952, Mahieddine Bachtarzi had been talked about by the
French press of North Africa equivalent of Caruso, and in the year 1926, he installed
the new Paris Mosque with the first call to prayer.
By the 1930s, Mahieddine Bachtarzihad stood his own musical group that’s
were good with the mixing of the North African Music with the use of popular
theatre. His songs possessed explicit political overtones as he combined French
with the spoken Arabic languages in his songs and that was the reason why one
of his collections was banned in the year 1937 for anti-French sentiment.
For many years he stood in the center stage of many artistic activities
of the country in which he took part in the field of singing, theatre acting
and music as well as decorations, interpretations, staging and arranging of
many provincial travelled both within and outside the country.
