Djamel Zidane

Djamel Zidane was born on the 28^th April 1955 in Algiers. He is a retired Algerian international football player. He participated in two world cups. He was among the Algerian national team that played in the 1982 and 1986 FIFA World Cup. He is an uncle to Zinedine Zidane.

Career

Djamel Zidane spent 9 years of his career with the club in his hometown, USM Alger. He made a move from the team B of the club to the team A and then pushed on to the Algerian Division 2 in the year 1972. He won two Algerian junior cups and gained promotion to the 1^st division in the 1973/74 season. He was given the award of the best player of the year in the country. He left the country to Belgium where he played 7 seasons with KV Kortrijk, KSV Waterschei, where he became the first foreign player in the Belgian League.

Djamel Zidane played the total of 15 matches for the Algerian national team between the year 1975 and the year 1986. He played five matches for the Algerian national team at the time of the 1982 and 1986 World Cup.

Djamel Zidane played his first match for the Algerian national team in the friendly match that was played against Albania in January 1975. After that he game, he never played for the country again until the year 1981, when he scored his first goal for the Algerian national team in the match that was won 2-0 against Nigeria in Lagos in October 1981.

Djamel Zidane travelled with the Desert Foxes to Spain to play his first match for the country in the competition that finished with a sad elimination after the West-Germany Austria Non-aggression pact of Gijon.

Subsequent to the deception, he came again with the Desert Foxes in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, where he scored his only world cup goal in the match that was played against Northern Ireland with a free-kick.
