Chaabane Merzekane was born on the 8th March 1959 in Hussein Dey Algiers region of Algeria. He is a former football player of Algeria. He played the role of a defender for the Algerian national team. He was a crucial part of the Algerian national team that participated in the 1982 FIFA World Cup as he played the full 90 minutes of the three group stage matches that were played by Algeria.

Chaabane Merzekane spent most of his career with NA Hussein Dey, but he had a short stint with MC Alger.

He was the coach of MO Bejaia and USM El Harrach shortly after he retired.
