Club Career
Belmadi was born in
Champigny-sur-Marne, France. He started his football career with the club,
Paris Saint-Germain, and he played his first game for the club in January 1996
in a match that was played against Gueugnon before he went on to spend a season
with Martigues. He spent the 1997/98 season with the club, Marseille before he
made a move to Cannes for the 1998/99 season. In August of the year 1999, he
was signed again by his former club, Marseille, though he was quickly sent on a
loan contract to the Spanish side, Celta Vigo, and it was there that he counted
Benni McCarthy of South Africa to be among his team-mates.
In January of the
year 2000, Belmadi went back to Marseille and he secured the first spot in the in
the first team of the club, he played the role of a midfielder for the club in
the 2000/01 season. In January 2001, he used some good chances that were given
to him to play for the attacking end for the club, when the main striker of the
club, George Weah was out for international duty for the country Liberia.
In January 2003, he
went off favor for the club, Marseille under the management of Alain Perrin and
the coach agreed to loan him out to Manchester City after a good trial with the
club. When he got to Manchester City, he played with another Algerian player,
Ali Benarbia. He played his first match for the club on the 29th
January 2003 at the Main Road in the match that was played against Fulham and
the game finished 4-1 in favor of Manchester City.
In the little time he
spent with the club, he started only two matches for the club and played the
total of 8 games for the club, the last match he played for the club was in the
match that was played against Southampton on the 11th May 2003 in
the final league match that was played in Maine Road.
Although the owner of
the club, Kevin Keegan like the striker’s pattern of play, he could not afford
another free spirit in his club that is made up of strikers like Eyal Berkovic
and Ali Bernabia, and that made the striker to go back to his club, Marseille.
In August of the year 2003, the club released him and he spent the 2003/04 as
well as 2004/05 season with the club, Qatar with Al-Ittihad and Al-Kharitiyath.
In July of the 2005,
after being tried with the following clubs, Celtic, Wigan Athletic and
Sunderland, he went on to join Southampton for their pre-season travel to
Scotland. He was given a month contract to play for the club by the coach of
the club, Harry Redknapp, and he played his first match for the club on the 6th
August 2005 in a match that finished 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After that month, his contract with the club was extended to the end of the
season by the coach of the club after his impressive display in the early
matches he played for the club, including the goal he scored against Crewe
Alexandra on the 27th August 2005. He picked up a thigh injury in
January 2006 that sat him out of the team until April 2006. He did enough to
convince the new coach of the club, George Burley to sign him for the club in
the following season, but that was made impossible by the constant injury
problems he had. The injury problems stopped him from playing the total of 40
games for the club St. Mary. His contract with the club finished on the 30th
June 2007 and the contract was not renewed as Southampton that loaned him to
the club face up financial problems in that season.
After he had been
released by the club, he went back to France and joined Valenciennes. He
retired from playing football in the year 2009.

He played his first
match for the Algerian national team on the 8th July 2000 in a match
that was [played against Morocco.
He was part of the
Algerian national team that played in the 2004 African Cup of Nations, and they
finished in the 2nd position of the group stage in the first round
of the tournament before they were eliminated by Morocco in the quarter-finals
of the tournament.
