hip hop, soul, R&B and other international music genres, frequently melded
with folk Zimbabwe music.

Musicians such as Roki, Stach,
Betty Makaya, Extra Large, Maskiri, Nehoreka, Sanii Makhalima, Roy and
Royce, David Chifunyise, and Leonard Mapfumo laid the foundation for the current
genre, which attained increasing fame among the youth. The pattern was assisted
by the 100% indigenous content policy in influence at the time, which required
all radio channels to play only music by Zimbabwean musicians.
A second generation of musicians such as Mokoomba,
Nehoreka, Q Montana and Alexio Kawara were more popular recently.
