The taishogoto is a stringed musical instrument from Japan. The name of the musical instrument derives from the taisho period, when the musical instrument first showed up. The musical instrument has been naturalized in the eastern part of Africa, known with the name taishokoto.

The musical instrument is made up of a long hollow box, having some strings running the length of the instrument. Above the strings of the musical instrument are spans of numbered keys that are like that of the typewriter that when depressed fret or shorten strings to the increase the pitch. The musical instrument is played lengthwise and strummed. There are also some electrified versions of the musical instrument.

The taishōgoto has a close similarity to the bulbul tarang used in India, and the akkordolia used in Germany, all the instruments sharing the same code of using keys to press down on the strings to alter their pitch.
