SHINOBUE: Japanese musical instrument

The shinobue is a transverse flute from Japan. The flute has a high pitched sound. The musical instrument is found in hayashi and nagauta ensembles and it performs crucial roles in noh and kabuki theater music. The musical instrument is heard in Shinto music like kagura-den and in traditional folk music of Japan. There are two versions of the musical instrument, the uta and the hayashi.
The uta is well tuned to the western scale and can be performed in ensembles or as a solo musical instrument. The hayashi is not in the accurate pitch, because it is simply a piece of hollow bamboo that has holes bore into it. This version of the musical instrument gives out high-pitched sound and is good for Japanese festival and folk music. The two version of the musical instrument play a very crucial function in the theater of japan.
