In
the year 1969, three Saint Lucians known as Primrose Bledman, Charles Cadet and
Eric Brandford collected many traditional songs for a show at the 1969 Expo in
Grenada and then again at the Guyana’s 1973 Carifesta. The two main traditional
orchestras appeared; they include The Helenites (who led Clement Springer),
Joyce Auguste’s and The Hewanorra Voices. Auguste later brought the traditional
music into Saint Lucian music institutional system.
