Naghma

Naghma is a popular musician from Afghanistan who began singing in the early part of the 1970s. She, together with her ex-husband, Mangal, were a popular musical duo that dominated the music of the country during the 1970s and the early parts of the 1990s. Naghma sings in Pashto and the Dari. Her music is prominent in Pakistan, Tajikistan and her country, Afghanistan.

EARLY YEARS

Naghm was born on the 1^st January, 1964 as Shaperai in Kandahar Afghanistan. She is categorized to be among the Pashtun ethnic group of the country. As a young lady, she built an interest in muci. Her early music were based on the songs of Kandahari, most of them were folkloric in nature though were important in the training of the novice. After moving Kandahar, she held different jobs, all of them while pursuing her music career. Coming from the traditional household, she got in touch with much resistance from the family members that saw her musical career as a demeaning career for a woman of the country. Meanwhile, she was not in any way discouraged by the discouragements. She joined with Mangal, who is a musician and a singer, and eventually they were married. Naghma has since been divorved from Mangal and she got married again and resides in the Islamabad.

PERSONAL LIFE

With the imminent civil war, the lady left the country with the husband and stayed in Pakistan in the year 1992. There, they became successful with the passionate crowd of the Afghan exile that was in love with the native music of their country. The couple’s financial position has been improved to a great extent. In the early part of the 1990s, they left the current country, Pakistan and immigrated to the U.S.

After establishing special contact with the community of Afghanistan in the northern part of California, the couple held a series of shows. Meanwhile, Mangal and Naghma been long divorced, because of the countinous abuse of alcohol by Mangal and they have been so sensitive about the any further elaboration on the issue. 

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

In the year 2006, Naghma’s new musical single ‘Mohabbat’ was dropped. This has been the first time she is having a pop music. It is favorite clubs rehash and the accompanying video to the music is also TV station of Kabul’s most requested video and Afghanistan MTV's most demanded video. The music is one of the uppermost ranking Afghan music in the world. Also in that same year, Naghma went back to her country, Afghanistan to give a rotund of concerts in different cities with Naim Popal, who is another popular musician from her country. At the time of her concert that was held in Kabul, the crowd rained the musician with rose petals.
