Qatar
music is based on the Bedouin poem, dance and song. The folk dances in Doha are usually performed
on Friday afternoons and such dance is known as Ardah, a formal martial dance
done by two rows of dancers who are followed by an array of drumming
instruments which include al-ras (a large drum whose leather is heated by an
open fire), cymbals, and tambourine join with small drums. Other of the
instruments played in Qatar include the rebaba and oud both are cord
instruments, as well as the Arabian flute.

Most
of the Qataris in these modern periods enjoy listening to Khaliji music in the
pattern of the traditional Bedouin music. This music leads the airwaves in the
capital Doha as well as in other parts of the country.
The
Qatar Gulf Folklore Center is one of the famous centers in the study of the
traditional music of the Persian Gulf.
