their professions performing in the mid-70s with Prince Adekunle. They later
left Adekunle and created a small partnership as Shina Adewale & the International

among the two to achieve success, when he became the greatest popular artist of
Yo-pop.
The
Yo-pop craze do nor last for so long, it was replaced by Shina Peters’ Afro-juju
style, which broke into the mainstream after the production of Afro-Juju Series
1 in 1989. Afro-juju was a mixture of Afrobeat and fuji and it exploded such
fervor among Shina’s supporters that the occurrence was dubbed Shinamania.
However he was awarded as the Juju Musicians of the Year in 1990, Shina’s
retain it, Shinamania sold respectively but was criticized by critics. His
achievement opened up the field for the upcoming artists, though, leading to
the achievement of fabulous Olu Fajemirokun and Adewale Ayuba. The same time
saw the rise of new patterns like the funky juju initiated by Dele Taiwo.
