Popular Music and Rock Music of Norway

The renowned Norwegian music was established on the different urban scenes such as the Bergen scene or Oslo’s underground. The strengthening of Norwegian famous music has been supported by the growth of festivals and the new independent indie record label, which is a modern generation of eager and talented music company professionals as well as encouraging local media. The creation of NRK (Norwegian National Broadcasting) in 1933 supported to help the famous music in Norway. Troubadour Alf Proysen stands out as a talented songwriter of the 1940s, 1950s and 60s, his songs frequently features lyrics joined with the indigenous culture of the Hedmark region. Many of his songs have become famous classics. In the 1950s, Keys Monn features Egil Monn-Iversen, Arnes Bendiksen, Oddvar Sanne, Solvi Wang and Per Asplin and became one of the renowned groups.

There are few Norwegian renowned musicians that have made it to the international market. Sissel Kyrkjebo who is a singer popularly known as Sissel has also entered a level of worldwide fame especially after the appearance of the voice soundtrack for the 1997 film titanic. Some of her features include singing the Olympic hymn in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lilehammer, representing Norway at the Noble Peace Prize Shows and performing at the invitation of tenor greats Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras at the first Christmas show in Moscow after the fall of the Soviet Union.
