The
music of Peru is a union of sounds and patterns drawing on Peru’s Andean
Spanish and African origins. Andean influences can maybe best heard in wind
instruments and the shape of the melodies, while the African influences can be
heard in the rhythm and drumming instruments and the European influences can be
also heard in the harmonies and cord instruments. The Pre-Columbia Andean music
was played on drums and wind instruments not the same as the European pip and
tabor custom. Andean tritonic and pentatonic scales were expanded during the
colonial era into hexatonic and sometime, diatonic scale.
