The
culture of Mozambique is an important part of the fight for independence that
started in 1964. The leaders of the independence trend used their cultural
unity to get support from the ordinary people, while the Portuguese
colonialists supported their own culture. During the time of the independence
in 1975, Mozambican ensembles had stopped their formal attempts at European-style
music and began to forge the modern types based out of the local folk patterns
and the modern African renowned music coming from Zaire, Zimbabwe, South
Africa, Zambia and Tanzania.
Ministry
of Education and Culture in the 1978, organized a National Dance Festival,
which involved more than half of million people that led the establishment of
many organizations and festivals promoting Mozambican music.
