Manolis Kalomiris in the year 1883 to 1962 was the initiators of the Greek national School of music. He was born in Smyrna he attended school in Constantinople and studied piano and composition in Vienna. His work drew influences also from the Greek traditional music, he was an admirer of Kostis Palamas) poetry and myth, aiming to mix the German Romanticism with the Greek motives. In the year 1919 he created the Hellenic conservatory and in the year 1926 he founded the National conservatoire.
