The xun is a flute-like globular
Chinese musical instrument. The musical instrument was formally produced of
stone or bone, and later the instrument was manufactured of clay or ceramic.
The musical instrument is analogous to an ocarina, although without a fipple
mouthpiece.
The musical instrument is produced in
many egg-shaped sizes. The xun is one of the oldest Chinese musical
instruments. It has a blowing hole on its top and generally it has eight
smaller finger holes. An analogous musical instrument is found and called ‘hun’
in Korea. The same type of musical instrument is known as ‘tsuchibue’ in
Japan.
