The ütőgardon, also known as gardon is a folk musical instrument originating in Transylvania and performed by the Székelys and Csángós, a Hungarian ethnic group in Transylvania, together with the violin, performing the melody.
The musical instrument is analogous in appearance to the cello, though is is played percussively. The instrument can have three or four strings that are commonly tuned to D and d and is performed with the use of a stick rather than a bow, providing a droning accompaniment.
