The tumbi is a traditional musical instrument instrument from northern part of India known as Punjab. The high pitched, sindle string plucking musica; instrument is linked with the folk music of Punjab and currently is a popular musical instrument in the western Bhangra music.

The instrument was popularized in the modern period by the Punjabi folk musician Lal chand Yamla Jatt. Most of Punjabi musicians like Kuldeep Manak, Mohammed Sadiq, Didar Sandhu, Amar Singh Chamkila and Kartar Ramla, used the musical instrument.
The tumbi is produced of wooden stick mounted with a resonator made of gourd shell.  A single metallic string is passed on the resonator of the instrument over the bridge and tied to the key at the end of the stick. The string of the instrument is struck with the continuous flick and retraction of the player’s forefinger.
