The tro u is a traditional musical
instrument that is found in Cambodia. It is a low-pitched and two-stringed
vertical fiddle that has a body from the coconut shell and one end of it is
covered with an animal skin. The strings of this instrument are manufactured of
silk, gut, nylon or metal. The strings are running over a bridge that is
produced of bamboo, wood, bone, ivory or seashell. The tro u is similar to the
‘saw u’, which is found in Thailand as well as the ‘yehu’, which is found in
china, but the latter instrument has a wooden skin face instead of animal skin
face.
