A tritare is an experimental guitar that was discovered in 2003 by Samuel Gaudet and Claude Gauthier of the Universite de Moncton of a family of stringed musical instrument that use Y-shaped strings, rather than of the normal srtring-shaped strings; Y-shaped strings can produce sounds that are related integer multiples, but also unrelated sounds more familiar to those manufactured by percussion instruments. The Y-shaped strings when accurately tuned create Chladni styles. Gaudet states that this permits for greater possibility. The model makes use of 6 strings and was for short period obtained, although not anymore. The sound effects that are gotten with the instruments are analogous to the sound that the 3rd bridge playing technique produces.
