The
steelpan music was originated in the year 1930’s in Trinidad, and was then
brought to Bermuda by a number of bands, which include the Esso steel group, who
moved to Bermuda in the 1950’s. The Esso became well-known for arranging
western classical music for the steelpan. In the 1960’s with local choral
traditions were joined with the calypso and steelpan to make a distinctively
Bermudian pattern.
