Modern Music of Belarus

Belarus had their independence after the fall of the Soviet Union and new bands showed up, and they include the N.R.M (Probably the best famous rock band of the late 1990’s and to the 2000’s decade). ULIS the modern pop stars are also famous, which include the Boris Moiseev and Lyapis Trubetskoy (through they tend to position themselves toward Russia and Russian speakers). They also have electronic music performers such as Austin, Energun 22, Dromos. While noting is Drum XTC performs live drum bass. Between 2002 a new generation of electronic band appeared organized by electrokids promo-class which includes the classes such as Randomajestiq, Stone People, Dreamlin, T-Trider, Cherry Vata and Koordinate of Wonders.

The rock music of Belarus arose in Perestroika period. The banks such as Bi-2 (which presently living in Russia), Lyapis Trubeskoy, Krama and ULIS were established in late 1980’s or early 1990’s. Though the rock music has risen in fame in the present years, the Belarusian government wanted to limit the amount of popular music aired on the television or radio, in the favour of their traditional Belarusian music. These stops have encouraged some of the Belarusian bands to sign up to Russian labels and to tour more in their neighbouring countries.

The culture of the country was centring on the folk and folk rock music which continued today by Stary Olsa, Gods Tower, Vicious Crusade and Kriwi, which among others. Stary Olsa is a Neo-Medieval music revivalist band that is using original instruments of the medieval Belarus (then part of Grand Duchy of Lithunia).

The year 2003, the Belarus took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for their first time, the participant Volha Satsiuk came in the 4^th place. In the year 2004 Belarus made it to the semi-finals of the regular Eurovision Song Contest. It was represented by the duo Alaksandra I Kanstantsin who failed and do not reach the final. Nevertheless, they later won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest of the 2005 which followed that year, with Ksenia Sitnik’s song. My Vmeste, while the nation has never won the real contest, the Belarusian singer –writer Alexander Rybak who won for the Norway in 2009, with his song fairytale which earn a record score.

The Belarusian power helped the folk or Slavic music at the country, and tops the musical event with the state sponsored by Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, an annual pop and folk music ceremony in Vitebsk. The largest ceremony of Belarusian rock music takes place outside the Belarus, in Grodek (Belarusian, Haradok), northeastern Poland, a small city of 40 kilometres east of Bialystok which the centre of Podlaskie Voivodeship that is populated by a 200,000 strong Belarusian minority. The ceremony, which held in July every year since 1990, which is organized by the Belarusian Union of Students (BAS) in Poland. The official name of the event is the music festival of young Belarus or Basovisca (BASS). Some rock music fans dubbed it Belarusian Woodstock.
