The jiegu was a drum used in the ancient china. The musical instrument was hourglass-shaped and performed with two wooden sticks.
The jiegu musical instrument was adopted from the central Asian province of Kucha during the Tang dynasty and became a very popular musical instrument for dancing, especially among the noble men of the society. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang was a famous player of this musical instrument. An analogous musical instrument known as ‘galgo’ that is derived from the jiegu is being used in Korea. In Japan, the Kakko that is a similar instrument was derived from the jiegu instrument and is still used in gagaku music of Japan.
