The istarski mih or Istrian mih is a
bagpipe musical instrument that is fabricated in the regions of the Istria and
Kverner, now in Croatia.

The musical instrument is
manufactured most often from the skin of a goat and a double-chanter with two
single reeds. The kind of bagpipe instrument is different in that it does not
possess any drones, but a double-chanter that has finger holes on both bores,
permitting bot a melody and changing harmony to be performed. In this case, the
mih is more analogous to the bagpipe of the southwestern Asia and North Africa
than some other European bagpipe instruments. The musical instrument is not
dodecaphonically tempered, rather using the Istrian scale. The sound of the
musical instrument is different and unusual.
Unlike some other Croatian
bagpipe-like musical instruments that were forgotten and been replaced with the
accordion and violin in the 20th century, art of performing the
Istarski mih has not faced any form for of cultural decay.
