The musical instrument was
discovered by musician Ubirany, the founder and percussionist with the band
“fundo de Quintal”. Ubirany begin the use of the instrument in its band but
thought it was too uncomfortable to play since the instrument is meant to be
originally played with the drum stuck. He changed to meet the requirements of
the instrument, he added a few mufflers on the inside of the instrument and
lowered the hoop and took the bottom skin off the musical instrument. It became
well appealing to the public and it began to be manufactured by several
producers of musical instrument, evolving away from the original repinique.
