Gonguê is a Brazilian percussion musical instrument; it is a kind of instrument made up of a big, flat iron bell that is measuring from 20 to 30 cm and the cable that serves as a support. The instrument is usually played with a metal drum stick and it is specifically used in the north-eastern Brazilian music making the beats more noticeable and doing rhythmic phrases that are generally formed by off-beats and modifying the pattern of the rhythm. To avoid mental or physical exhaustion, the player needs to support the instrument against his body. Because of the size, the instrument has a loud and strongly expressed sound more than any other types of cowbell.
