The ghumot is a membranophone musical instrument from Goa, India. The musical instrument is a percussion instrument of the earthen vessel that has its two sides open, a leather of monitor lizard is mounted on the bigger opening of the instrument. Commonly, the musical instrument is accompanied by the samel, another traditional musical instrument that has a wooden drum and a goat leather mount. This musical instrument is still well-known amongst the Konkani diaspora.

The musical instrument form the integral part of the Goan folk, religious and the temple music. The musical instrument serves as an accompaniment musical instrument to the folk melodies and to the mando music. Most essentially, the musical instrument plays a crucial role in the music played in Goa during the Ganesh festival. The ghumot is also used in most of the Goan temples during the spring season in an orchestra known as ‘Suvari Vadan’.
