The
Burmese music include a change of folk traditions, a different way known as the byaw is often played at the
religious festival and is sung to the beat of a long and thin percuss with

The
traditional folk collection, have typically been used in the nat pwe, Burmese
theatre and art, and the festival is known as the hsaing waing. While, its
origin is unknown, it is assumed to have come from the Ayuthaya kingdom, or in
least been heavily powered by the Ayuthaya gong and percuss collections in the
18th century through repeated attacks by the Konbaung dynasty and
has several resemblance to other
Southeast Asian collections. The ensemble is made up of series of percuss and
gongs, which include the centrepieces that are the hne (double reed pipe) and
pat waing o hsaing wan (set of 21 tuned drums in a circle). Other instruments
in this collection include the kyi waing (small bronze gongs in a circle frame)
and maung hsaing (a larger bronze gongs in a rectangular frame) as well as the
si and wa (which is bell and clapper) and the current addition of the chauk
lone bat (a group of six percuss which have gained currency since the early 20th
century). Hsaing waing music however, is common in Southeast Asian music
characterized by sudden shifts in rhythms and melody as well as change in surface
and timbre.
