The dangubica is a small Serbian and Croatian stringed musical instrument that has either two single or double strings. The musical instrument has a long, fretted neck and a pear-shaped body. One string of the musical instrument is used in to perform the melody, while the second string of the instrument performs a continuous note known as the drone. Loosely translated, the word danguba stipulates, ‘to lose the day’, referring to the origin of the musical instrument among the shepherds, who often perform alone as a way to pass the time. This also helps to explain the fact that tuning of the musical instrument is generally different.
